Windows Password Cracker is a very useful tool for recovering lost or forgotten user account passwords.
It can be considered a hacking tool (as reported by Panda Titanium 2006 and Zone Alarm Security Suite), since it is used for breaching a security feature.
After installation, with a single click, you can import users and their passwords. The program will scan the system registry and retrieve all the data related to the accounts set up on that machine. However, you need to be logged in as an administrator in order that the program should work.
During our testing, the program retrieved only limited account's passwords, as for the Administrator's account, the program displayed a password containing more characters that the original password.
Pluses: You can try and crack passwords using a "dictionary attack"; dictionaries in English, Russian, Italian, French, German, Spanish can be downloaded from the producer's Website.
Another attack method is the "brute force" attack: it will try every character combination added by the user and it will, basically, crack any password. Passwords created using A-Z and 0-9 characters can be cracked within the day, while cracking passwords containing characters as ^&(@ can take up to several weeks.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: The program should not be used for illegal or offending purposes, therefore it is recommended to be used by system or network administrators.
