NetPalpus is a network monitoring tool which helps you keep an eye on all the devices included in your subnet: workstations, routers, switches, etc.
After starting the program, you need to search for the network devices: you can specify an IP range, which can be remembered for future searches; advanced 'Search' options include the number of threads, SNMP community, use/exclude NetBIOS, Ping timeout and the number of Ping attempts before completing a connection. The search results will be displayed including the device name, health and IP address. by clicking on any of the device, you can obtain information regarding the services, the services' status (open/closed) and the interface (health and IP number).
By double clicking on a device, the 'Settings' window will show up. here, you can write notes, choose the polling interval, timeout and number of attempts, check the interface that needs polling and select the services to be queued for polling.
The program not only monitors your subnet, but it also triggers an alarm in case one of your devices fails or is shut down. You can even set the program to send a notification email, in case you are away.
The program's GUI is very well designed and provides a quick access to all the information you need. You can choose to see devices as 'Subnet View', 'Service View' or you can copy/paste items in a 'Custom View'.
Pluses
Drawbacks / flaws: The logs cannot be saved in other formats or exported to text files.
In conclusion: A very good monitoring application which allows you to know at all times the status of your subnet.
